AFT PLUS is the name of the member benefit programs available to AFT members and their families. Many of the programs are provided through Union Privilege, the benefit arm of the AFL-CIO; others are unique to AFT and are coordinated directly through AFT PLUS. FINANCIAL SERVICES
Credit and Budget Counseling – Free consumer credit counseling, budget advice and discounted debt-management services are available 24 hours a day to help members with confidential financial guidance.
Credit Card – The AFT + credit card program offers three credit card options that AFT members and their families can apply for.

AFT+ Legal Services makes it easy for members and their families to get the legal help they need to avoid and solve legal problems—and usually for free! One toll-free call or visit to the Web puts you in touch with a nationwide network law offices that offer free 30-minute consultations and discounted services.
Identity Theft Protection – Identity theft is the fastest-growing crime in America. All members, including retirees, can obtain an ID Threat Score as well as assistance in the event you are a victim of identity theft.

Mortgage Programs – AFT has two mortgage options available to members, Union Plus Mortgage Company and Amalgamated Bank Mortgage. Note: These programs are not licensed in all states. Please see program website for more information.

Save My Home Hotline – A dedicated Save My Home Hotline staffed by HUD-trained counselors is available free to all AFT members to discuss mortgage issues. The service is provided through the nonprofit Money Management International, which is accredited to provide counseling for union members facing foreclosure.

INSURANCE
Accidental Death & Dismemberment – The AFT has arranged for all active, working members in good standing to be covered by a $5,000 accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance policy from the Union Labor Life Insurance Company. This new benefit, effective Aug. 1, 2017, is provided at no cost to our members through the AFT.
No-Cost Term Life for New Members – New AFT members who are actively employed are entitled to $5,000 of term life insurance coverage with MetLife for one year at absolutely no cost. New members must complete, sign and return an application to be eligible.
(New!)Occupational Liability Insurance – The AFT is pleased to provide liability protection for claims or charges arising out of the employment activities of a member of a participating local. The Occupational Liability Insurance (OLI) Plan (the Plan) provides AFT members broad protection for legal defense costs and court judgments.
Auto & Home Insurance – Buying a car and a home are likely the two biggest purchases you will make in a lifetime. Because it is important to protect these valuable assets, the AFT has joined with MetLife Auto & Home to provide access to special group discounts on auto and home insurance.
Term Life – Voluntary term life insurance is designed to provide financial protection for your loved ones in the event of a premature death.
Senior Term Life – Members and their spouses or domestic partners (ages 55-74) can get economical Senior Term Life insurance to help pay final expenses and ensure peace of mind.
Disability Income – This is a voluntary insurance program with MetLife that will provide nontaxable replacement income if you are unable to work due to an accident or extended sickness.
Long-Term Care Insurance – Long-Term Care insurance maintains your financial freedom and gives flexibility in making choices in the event of a long-term illness or a chronic condition.

(New!)Trauma Counseling – In April 2020 AFT launched a new benefit made available at no cost to all active working members of AFT. Trauma Counseling provides up to 21 hours of counseling for members experiencing trauma of many types – but also including secondary trauma.

Free College – The Union Plus Free College Benefit can help you (and your family members) afford a college education without piling on thousands of dollars in student debt.
Robert G. Porter Scholars Program – This program offers four 4-year, $8,000 post-secondary scholarships to students who are dependents of AFT members, as well as 10 one-time $1,000 grants to AFT members.
